Monthly Group Break ideas

I didn’t get much input about what people want to see in upcoming monthly baseball group breaks. So what do you think of the following?

2009 SP Authentic Baseball
Prime Cuts
2009 Sweet Spot
2009 Topps T-206
Topps Tribute
Topps Unique
2009 Upper Deck Ultimate

The other thing I am thinking about doing is two breaks at a time. I have a lot of inquiries about people that want to get in on the breaks but can’t because their team is taken. Any thoughts on that? The format would be the same.

This is creepy

First of all I think that grown men that pay a ton of attention to college age guys is creepy enough, but the amount of attention these guys give to high school boys is ever creepier. See this link, then click on “message boards”.

I couldn’t find the middle school message boards, but I’m sure they are out there.

Case value?

I often wonder if some people have a clue when it comes to busting cases. Triple Threads while full of sick nasty mojo hits, plain sucks. It’s easy for those that don’t bust cases to view a $50 card out of a $150 product and think it is a nice card because it is. For example, when I pulled my Forte and manningham SP Authentic RPA’s I was pretty excited because they became part of my collection. Yes, I could have bought each card for less than a box, but its fun to open the boxes and get a nice card or two. These are $30-$60 cards so not a bad difference.

Looking at cases of Leaf Limited, I can’t help but say meh. Sticker autos, shoddy condition, and the $1100 price tag does it really matter if you pull an Elway Sticker auto or sanchez/Namath sticker auto. The case hits are nice but I prefer to judge a product on an any given box format. Hence my 3 box average experiment last year. Plus this product has a major flaw. The junky crabtree letter auto. That is horrific. Compared to SP authentic, exquisite or even National Treasures, this stuff is terrible. Hopefully, Panini fixes the auto quality for NT. Here is what I am talking about.

Remember these guys are trying to flip these cases. Also consider Topps Chrome the last few years. One rookie auto per box a bunch or refractors and you can pick them up for $50. Plus you arent stuck with single color jerseys.

So where is the value with these cases?

Did you see this?

If a product is released and no one buys it, was it ever released?

Razor Letterman. Wasn’t this stuff $90 or so a box at one time? Blowout cards was nice enough to knock $3 off and make the boxes $29.99. If you feel like paying more you can always buy from this guy.

2007 Upper Deck Masterpieces Serious Black v. Black Linen Green Linen v. Windsor Green

No one likes Masterpieces as much as I. One thing that bothered me though was the use of parallels. Upper Deck in their infinite wisdom decided to put out two un numbered green framed parallel and two black parallel both /99. From more than a few inches away it is almost impossible to tell the difference. Reader Pop Cultured, not to be confused with Pop Startled, asked me what the difference is. Well, I listen to my readers so here we go.

Green: Two Matsuis seemingly the same.
Photobucket
close inspection shows the difference.
Photobucket
Note the textured finish on the frame to the right. That is the Linen version, whereas the non textured is the Windsor. After sorting my cards it appears the windsor are 2-1 more common.

Same with the Black
Photobucket
Even from this angle it is tough to see:

Linen on the right, Serious Black on the Left.

November and December Monthly Break

The November Break is 2 boxes Legendary cuts and 4 boxes Topps Chrome.

Arfmax commented that he wants to be able to vote on what to open because he wants the break to be things he wouldn’t normally open. Well, I agree with him. Please comment as to what you want the December and Janaury breaks to be. Remember to keep in mind the cost and availability as well as the appeal. Topps Chrome is a popular product and that’s why I picked it. The guidelines are 1 higher end product and one midrange product and please put the number of boxes.

Fire!

My dad’s chevelle that I am having restored for him was in the shop at the time. The car had been dipped, block sanded and was ready for the paint booth. The car has to be redipped. Ugh. The chevelle they refer to in the video is his.
